Meet chapo
Meet Chapo 🐾
Chapo is a 3-year-old Cane Corso who was surrendered due to behavioral concerns. His previous owner reported that Chapo heavily guards beds and bedding and has lunged at them in the past.
Since arriving at the shelter, Chapo has made a lot of wonderful progress. Staff have watched him become more comfortable and confident, and he now allows people to approach, greet him, and offer him pets. He can still be a little timid and hesitant when first meeting someone, but with a calm approach, he warms up and shows what a good boy he can be.
Chapo is also very well behaved on leash. He walks nicely and only becomes more excited when passing a dog that is already barking at him. Even then, he is very easy to redirect and guide away. When approaching dogs that are calm and not barking, Chapo has shown friendly interest.
Chapo is a smart and sensitive dog who has proven that he is capable of making positive changes when given patience, structure, and consistency. His future family should be prepared to continue helping him build trust while being mindful of his resource-guarding history.
Because of Chapo's past behavior, we recommend an experienced adopter who is comfortable working with a large guardian breed and understands the importance of respecting boundaries, providing appropriate management, and continuing positive training 💛🐶
