Meet jerry

Jerry came to BARCS as a stray and was initially described as very shy and nervous, but every day he shows that underneath his cautious exterior is an incredibly sweet, gentle dog just waiting to trust. His finder shared that he peacefully coexisted with a cat, and one thing is already certain—treats are the fastest way to this handsome boy`s heart!Jerry is currently enjoying a short-term foster stay, where he`s making wonderful progress and showing more of his sweet personality every day. While new experiences once required a little extra encouragement, Jerry is becoming more confident and comfortable with the world around him—and his foster is getting to see just what a special guy he is.Walks are where Jerry really shines. He`s great on leash, doesn`t pull, and happily keeps pace with his person. Being out and about seems to bring out his happiest, most confident self, and his foster even thinks he could make a great jogging companion. They`ve also enjoyed a little hiking and people watching together.Jerry`s confidence around new people is growing, too. He has gone from quietly observing people on walks to happily greeting some of them and seeking out pets. When his foster had guests over for brunch, Jerry was laid back and comfortable around everyone. He also handled an hour-long wait at the BARCS clinic like a champ, greeting several people, accepting plenty of pets, and calmly taking in all the activity around him. Staff members who remembered Jerry from his original intake even commented on how well he`s doing! He`s also interested in the dogs he sees while out and about. Jerry may get excited and whine because he`d like to say hello, but he doesn`t pull toward them or stop walking and continues along nicely with his person. At home, Jerry has made fantastic progress with his routine. After initially needing some help with housetraining, he went this entire week without a single accident in the house. His crate has also become his safe, comfortable space. He stays there while his foster is at work and has become so comfortable that sometimes he needs a little convincing to come out when it`s time for a walk!As Jerry has settled in, his affectionate side has really blossomed. He loves gentle scratches under his chin, behind his ears, and along the side of his face. One of his favorite ways to ask for affection is to softly rest his head on your arm and nudge your hand for more pets. He`s a big fan of cudd
