Meet jerry

Meet Jerry, a sweet, gentle guy who is discovering that the world is a pretty wonderful place when you have people he can trust. Jerry arrived at BARCS as a stray and was initially described as shy and nervous, but his time in a foster home has revealed just how much personality was waiting underneath that cautious exterior. With patience, consistency, and plenty of love, Jerry continues to blossom into an affectionate, playful, and increasingly confident companion.Jerry has settled beautifully into foster life and is doing well with his routine. His crate has become his safe and comfortable place while his foster family is at work, and he is able to relax there during the workday. He is also making steady progress with housetraining. He is beginning to understand the word `outside` and will gallop to the backyard door when he needs to go. He consistently pees once outside, and his foster has learned that watching for signs of restlessness can usually tell them when he needs a bathroom break. Jerry does need to be crated whenever he is left alone, even for very short periods, as he had one accident this week when his foster stepped upstairs briefly.Jerry`s energy level has picked up as his confidence has grown, and he`s discovering that there are plenty of fun ways to burn it off. He enjoys running around the backyard like it`s his personal racetrack, exploring the neighborhood, and spending time at nearby parks. He has even discovered balls and is beginning to understand the concept of playing fetch. His foster is also starting to jog with him, and Jerry has decided that perhaps every walk should now be conducted at top speed! He has started pulling more than he did previously, likely because he has more energy and enthusiasm than before, so adopters should be prepared to continue working on his leash skills and provide him with appropriate outlets for exercise.Jerry is still learning about car rides, too. He was previously frightened but curious about getting into the car and had successfully gotten in before. More recently, he has been hesitant to get back in, so his foster is continuing to work on making car rides a positive experience. His affectionate side, however, remains as strong as ever. Jerry absolutely loves being close to his people and will happily snuggle up for affection. He may even ask you to hold his paw, which is about as adorable as it sounds. He`s still working on his basic training, but he`s showing cu
