Cynthia Sweet, Smart, and Ready to Learn
Age: 1 Year | Poodle Mix | Current Weight: Gaining steadily!
Meet Cynthia, a spunky 1-year-old pup who is looking for her forever home! Her story begins at the ACC in Queens, where she entered care as a stray with no known background. In the overwhelming shelter environment, Cynthia was exceptionally fearful and completely shut down. But with a little time, love, and a lot of patience, her resilient spirit and adventurous side are finally beginning to shine through.
She’s got the perfect balance of energy and snuggles — happy to trot along on walks (stick collecting is her favorite hobby) and just as happy to curl up on the couch for cuddle time afterward. Cynthia loves her squeaky toys (especially the crinkly ones), bananas (in moderation!), and stealing the occassional sock.
She’s whip-smart and a joy to train. She already knows “sit” and picks up new commands quickly with a few training treats as motivation. Cynthia is also becoming a pro at walking on the leash - she follows directions, is not reactive towards people or dogs and is just happy to be outside exploring the neighborhood. Bully sticks are her favorite toy so far. At night, she settles right into her crate with zero fuss.
She’s doing great with potty training — only a couple of accidents daily—as she acclimates to a new schedule and routine. She gets along with other dogs and is eager to play! She currently lives with a similarly sized young pup and, if possible, would do great in a home with another confident dog buddy that likes to play and can be a positive example for her.
This girl just needs a patient, loving home to keep helping her thrive. If you have the patience to show this brave girl how beautiful the world can be, she will reward you with a lifetime of loyalty and snuggles. Because she still has a tendancy to be easily startled, we would recommend Cynthia go to a home with older children.
