Hi, my name is Casper.

When I was just a puppy, I got lost from my first family. For the next eight months, I survived completely on my own.

I slept in the woods. I hid under an overpass. I searched for food wherever I could find it. Every day was about survival.

Somewhere along the way, I was hit by a car. The accident broke my left hip. No one was there to help me or take me to a veterinarian. My body healed the only way it could—on its own. The bone never went back into quite the right position, and I’m still working on rebuilding strength in my left rear leg.

Despite everything that happened, I never stopped hoping someone would care.

For a month, my foster mom, Julie, came to feed me every single day. She sat with me, talked to me, and patiently earned my trust. Little by little, I started believing that humans could be safe again. Eventually, she was able to bring me to safety.
When my original family was found, they decided they didn’t want me back. I won’t pretend that part doesn’t hurt.

But my foster mom tells me that my story isn’t over yet. She says that even after everything I’ve been through, I’m still one of the sweetest dogs she’s ever met. I’m shy when we first meet, but once I know I’m safe, my goofy puppy side comes out. I love attention, I love playtime, and I still believe people can be kind.

In a few weeks, I’ll be ready for adoption.
What I want most isn’t sympathy. It’s a family.
A family that won’t give up on me.
A family that will see past my scars and understand that after everything I’ve survived, all I’ve ever wanted was a place to belong.
