Daphne is a 7-month-old small black mixed-breed dog with a white spot on her chest and a smile that will make you smile when she's happy. At around 20 pounds, she's likely close to her full-grown size.

Daphne isn't the kind of dog who will instantly walk into a new home and act like she's always belonged there. She's a sensitive, nervous young dog who can be anxious in new situations and needs someone who understands that trust takes time. She isn't looking for someone to "fix" her—she's looking for someone who will meet her where she is at, celebrate the small victories, and give her the patience and reassurance she needs to continue growing.

Once Daphne feels safe, her fun personality starts to shine. She is a bit quirky, proudly shows off the treasures she finds around the house or outside, playing with her fruits and veggies she likes to eat, has judgmental or crazy eyes from time to time, and a tongue that hangs out extra long when she’s worn out. She has fun playing with her all the other foster (big and small),  but would be just fine being the only dog so she doesn’t have to share. She loves chewing on a good bone or toy most of the day and independently searches the house or backyard for more.  She wants her person around all the time but isn’t a velcro dog. 

Daphne is a little stubborn, and that's okay. She's probably never going to be the dog who masters a long list of tricks, but she's happy just enjoying life. She loves treats and will sit for them but she does get impatient and jump up to get it if not given to her fast enough. We are still working on not jumping or barking with excitement for meals.

She isn't a dog that wants to be carried around or held for a long time, but she does want to be close to her people. You'll often find her curled up beside your feet or tucked against you on the couch. She also loves going on a walk everyday to sniff the world around her. She is trying out Doggie Daycare to help build more confidence, explore new environments, and be around different people. They say she is doing great and getting braver each day.

Daphne sleeps through the night in her kennel. She is good with going into her kennel at bedtime as she knows it’s her place but she'd much rather be near her person in bed. 

Daphne also has a voice. She barks when she's excited, when another dog has something she'd like or stole from her, when she sees her person outside while she's inside, and when a cat or dog walks past the front window. She will bark occasionally to check if you’re around if she's separated from you or you’ve left. She does wear a bark collar from time to time to help curb her barking and takes a calming chew if she will be left alone for a while. 

Daphne is looking for a family that understands that not every great dog is fearless or outgoing. She needs people who will give her time to adjust, respect her boundaries, laugh at her goofy moments, and appreciate the unique dog she is. In return, you'll earn the trust of a loyal companion who simply wants to feel safe, loved, and included.
