Meet avacado

Meet Avacado !!
No one wants a dog with one eye 🙁 Poor girl has been here so long waiting for anyone to even want to meet her. She may be a little different but she has so much love and fun to bring into your home if you give her a chance!!
She is one of the now 23 dogs we have taken in from a horrible hoarding situation. She survived being in a feces covered home during freezing temps with no heat, no water, no food, and no electricity for a very long time. She’s been through a lot but she’s ready to find someone to love!
Avacado is a female Chihuahua mix (best guess). She weighs 10 Pounds and is full grown. Her age is a guess. We thought she was 8-10yrs years old based on her teeth (she had a full dental and is doing great). After her dental she really came out of her shell and is a very spirited, happy, and playful girl!! Definitely doesn't act like an older dog at all. She is fearless around other dogs and loves to run and play. She also loves to cuddle.
She has already been spayed, is up to date on vaccines and microchipped. She is heartworm negative and on monthly preventions. She also had a dental cleaning surgery done.
Avacado is a dog that takes a good bit of time to trust you. Once she opens up she is wide open and loving. She also loves to cuddle making her a great mix. She will be extremely shy and shut down in a new place for a few weeks. She slowly comes to trust you and feel safe and then she finally shows her spunky playful self. She’s never been aggressive even when she’s scared.
She has done well with other dogs of all sizes and ages. She has no issues playing with big dogs. Once she settles in she plays with toys and runs the yard like she’s a puppy again. She is not fostered with cats so we do not know how she will do but we suspect she would do fine. She is shy at first with everyone but she has done good with kids. She lets them pick her up and hold her. As with any dog she would need any children in the house to be respectful and not treat her like a toy.
Avacado does really well with her training after she settles in. Please keep that in mind as the first few weeks will be different than her behaviour once settled.
She is crate trained but can also be left out without needing one. She has done very well on car rides and does not get sick. She’s been very good for all of her vet visits. She had never been on a leash before but has been practicing. She is getting much better about it but that is only once you and her have established trust.
Avacado is not fully potty trained. She came from a place where they were trapped inside and had no options for going anywhere else. She will still sometimes have accidents in the house. When she is first with you she will have to potty in the house until trust is built and she feels safe to use the bathroom outside. A pen or room area with puppy pads on the floor is the recommended way to let her go while trust is gained. Her new owner will just need to be patient and understanding given her history.
Despite having to fight over limited resources in the hoarding house she has shown no issues sharing food, treats or toys with humans or other dogs. She also takes treats gently.
Avacado has a medium energy level so far. It takes a bit to see the playful side but once she settles in she really opens up. She loves toys of all kinds and has no trouble running the yard with dogs 8 times her size. She is fearless in that aspect and loves to get right in the middle of any play times. She also loves to sleep on your lap and relax. She’s a perfect mix of fun playful energy and lazy cuddles.
Overall Avacado is working hard to overcome a rough start to life. She is so sweet and really wants to trust and feel safe. It takes some time to get to see the real Avacado hidden behind the fear. If you are willing to help her learn the rest of her training and give her some time to trust you then you will end up with a great addition to your family.
***Do not apply to adopt one of these hoarding case dogs if you’re not serious about giving them time to adjust. It’s absolutely unfair to expect them to adjust in a day or two. We’ve had 3 adopted and returned within 24 hours of adoption for not being immediately settled and perfect in a completely new place. All returned for things we explained upfront about them. It’s completely unreasonable and unrealistic to expect that from dogs that have been through what they have. The last thing they need is to be shuffled around due to adopters not listening or being serious about their needs***
Vet and home checks required.
Located in Hampton VA.
(She will need to be adopted within a 2 hour drive radius)
