Meet Popeye, an 8-year-old bulldog and certified drunken sailor man.

Popeye has degenerative myelopathy, which means he is not in pain, but his back legs are not always totally sure what the plan is.

He waddles. He sploots. He occasionally looks like he has been overserved at a dockside bar. And somehow, it only makes him more lovable.

Because of his wobbly little back end, Popeye would do best in a home without a lot of stairs. Stairs are hard for him, and unfortunately, Popeye has not received the memo that stairs should be approached with caution. He prefers to go absolutely soaring down them like a bowling ball with feelings, so fewer stairs would be ideal.

Personality-wise, Popeye is a classic bulldog in all the best and most ridiculous ways. He pants like he has just completed a 5K, produces farts that could end a dinner party, and has the loyal, squishy sweetness that makes bulldog people bulldog people for life.

He loves short walks, pets, snacks, naps, and waking up genuinely surprised and delighted to see you again. Every time he opens his eyes and waddles over like, “Oh my gosh, YOU’RE here?” your heart will melt each time, I promise.

Popeye is not looking for someone who needs a hiking buddy or a dog with a lot of thoughts. He is looking for someone who loves a sweet, silly, elderly gentleman exactly as he is.

He has plenty of life and love left to give. He just needs the right person to see him and say, “Yes. That ridiculous little sailor belongs with me.”
