Meet Tootsie!
Tootsie is a 10-year-old, 15-pound chocolate long-haired Dachshund with a perpetually wagging tail and a heart full of love. Rescued alongside 41 other Dachshunds from a home with more than 60 dogs, Tootsie has embraced her second chance at life with remarkable joy and resilience.
Most importantly, Tootsie is bonded to her longtime housemate, Hopscotch, and the two are looking for a home together. After spending their lives side by side, they take comfort in each other's presence and deserve to stay together as they begin this exciting new chapter.
Tootsie is one of those dogs who seems genuinely happy just to be alive. The moment she sees a person, her tail starts wagging, and it rarely stops. She adores human companionship and will happily approach anyone willing to offer a kind word, a gentle pet, or a cozy spot to relax. If you're sitting on the ground having a picnic, don't be surprised if Tootsie comes over to introduce herself and see if she can join the fun!
This sweet senior has mastered the art of balancing relaxation and adventure. She loves soft blankets and cozy beds and is happiest when she can burrow underneath a blanket for a nap. At the same time, she enjoys walks, loves feeling the grass beneath her paws, and gets a kick out of watching and chasing birds in the yard. She navigates city life surprisingly well, taking loud noises in stride after a brief pause to assess the situation.
Tootsie is incredibly affectionate and loves being pet. She's also wonderfully gentle and submissive, often rolling over in hopes of earning some extra attention and belly rubs. She gets along beautifully with dogs, cats, children, and adults alike, making friends wherever she goes.
While she doesn't seem to know much about toys, and treats aren't her primary motivation, Tootsie doesn't need much to be happy. A comfy blanket, a patch of grass, and people to love are more than enough.
She walks nicely on leash and can manage stairs, though large flights can be challenging due to her size and age. Tootsie is house trained, puppy pad trained, and does an excellent job using her pads, with only the occasional near miss. She travels well, rarely barks, doesn't shed much, and has no resource guarding tendencies.
Tootsie is simply a lovely little dog—sweet, easygoing, affectionate, and grateful. After spending years as one of more than 60 dogs, she's finally getting the chance to be cherished as an individual. Alongside her best friend Hopscotch, she's ready to find a family who will give them both the love, comfort, and security they deserve.
