Meet pico #1

Animal Rescue of the Rockies believes every pet should find a wonderful and caring home. To ensure Pico #1 finds the best possible home, we ask you fill out our adoption application so we can learn more about you and your household. We review each application in the order submitted and will contact you within 48 hours  (please check your spam folder for our emails) .   Pico | 3-Year-Old Chihuahua Mix | Gentle, Snuggly Little Shadow Pico is a 3-year-old, 11-pound Chihuahua mix with a soft heart and a gentle spirit. This sweet boy may be a little shy at first, but once he feels safe, he becomes an incredibly affectionate and loyal companion. He bonds quickly with his person and loves to stay close—whether that means curling up beside you on the couch, resting his head on you, or burrowing under the covers for extra coziness. Pico is calm, easygoing, and happiest when he’s soaking up love and attention. He is house-trained with little to no accidents and has been doing great when left home alone for short periods, settling in nicely as his confidence continues to grow. Pico currently sleeps peacefully in an open playpen at night and doesn’t fuss or whine. While he hasn’t been crate-trained, he responds well to gentle structure and is eager to please, especially when treats or affection are involved. He already knows “sit” (when he feels like showing off) and enjoys working with his person. Pico is wonderful on a leash and truly enjoys his walks. He’s a polite, gentle walker who loves to sniff and take in the world around him without pulling. He has shown positive, calm interest in other dogs and has had appropriate, curious interactions with cats. That said, he can be a bit timid when meeting new people—especially men—and may initially hide behind his person. With patience and reassurance, he is already starting to warm up and show more confidence each day. With a medium energy level, Pico is content with a couple of daily walks or play sessions, followed by plenty of time to relax and cuddle. He enjoys toys, car rides, being brushed, and simply being near his person. His ideal home would be a calm, quiet environment where he can continue to build confidence at his own pace. He would do especially well with someone who is home often or able to provide him with consistent companionship and reassurance. Pico is an incredibly sweet, loving little dog who just wants to feel safe and cherished. Given a bit of patience and a lot of love, he will reward his person with unwavering loyalty and affection.   If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives!  A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you.  The adoption fee for this pet is $400. Our adoption fee covers the following: Spay/neuter Microchip DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.  Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption. Please fill out an adoption application by clicking  here . Please give us 48 hours to review your application and respond to you. (Remember to check your spam folder for our emails!) We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process! Please email dogs@arrcolorado.org for more information, as we can't accept calls.PLEASE NOTE:  The breed listed is the information we've received from the shelter.  Shelters usually guess at the breed, so there is no guarantee, as we don't DNA test our foster pets.  Here is some interesting info on breed identification:  https://arrcolorado.org/category/puppy-dog-tips/ Our adoption process is: 1. Fill out our Adoption Application online.  We'll contact you within 48 hours to answer any questions you may have about the pet. 2. If the pet looks like a great match, we'll schedule a meet and greet and ask you to fill out our online Adoption Agreement if you'd like to proceed with adopting.  Once you've completed the Adoption Agreement and pay the pet's Adoption Fee, you can arrange to pick up your new furry family member!
