Say hello to Rufus, affectionately known as “Dufus,” because his single, overworked brain cell is usually busy chasing a squeaky toy or absolutely nothing at all. It’s doing its best, okay?

Rufus came to us on a transport from Tennessee, where he was reportedly a “farm dog” looking for a new gig. Unfortunately, Rufus may have… embellished his résumé. While he might coexist peacefully with large animals like cows, horses, or goats, anything small and feathery (looking at you, chickens) will be treated less like coworkers and more like snacks. Cats? Also a no. Rufus says, “If it runs, I must investigate immediately.”

That said, what Rufus lacks in farm skills, he more than makes up for in charm. In his foster home, he proved himself to be a top tier couch connoisseur (seriously, are we sure he ever lived on a farm?) and a certified Good Boy™. He gets along great with other dogs, handles rowdy kids like a patient babysitter, and greets everyone like they’re his long lost best friend.....with lots of enthusiastic kisses and zero regard for personal space.

He does have a small note about crate time: he may file a brief complaint (in the form of some whining), but quickly accepts his fate and settles in. He’s also an excellent car passenger, ready to accompany you on all your adventures or at least to the nearest drive thru.

Rufus is searching for a home that can provide two key things: attention and an elite collection of dog toys (bonus points for squeakers, his brain cell demands enrichment). He’d also benefit from some basic training, as that lone brain cell didn’t come preloaded with many commands.
