Greetings Hoomans! My name is Peter and I am a tiny, older gentleman who is just beginning to learn what being a dog it is really all about.

You see, I recently came to Golden Paws from a breeder situation that didn’t allow me much opportunity to develop as a normal dog. I am a purebred, male, tan, yellow and fawn mini poodle who is 10 years young and weighs about 12lbs. I have been described by the people here as very shy, but once I get to know you and get comfortable with you, I loosen up quite a bit. I love scratches and pets and cuddles and, more than anything, love. Once I receive those things from a person, I tend to accept them and get very excited when they come by. I get along very well with the dogs I am housed with here and I am learning a lot about being a dog from them. As far as cats are concerned, the other dogs have advised me that I can learn very little from them and, therefore, just tend to ignore them.

I’m really not looking for a home and a hooman for great adventures like long hikes and fording raging rivers. I am looking for a calm, gentle environment where I can decompress. A quiet environment where I can continue learning how to be a dog. An environment where you can teach me about gentleness and love. Perhaps you could rescue me and allow me to rescue you right back.
As usual in a breeder situation, I’ve had dental issues and now I’ve only one tooth remaining. I’m afraid I would do much better with soft dog food as opposed to a bucket of peanut brittle. I’m sure you understand

So that, as they say, is my story. 10 years old, 12lbs, 1 tooth, and a whole lot of love still waiting to be shared. If you’re ready for an excellent companion for life, fill out an application and come on in for a visit. I’ve been neutered, have had all my shots and I’m ready to go home with you. It may take a moment or two for me to warm up to you, but you are obviously a kind person or you wouldn’t be reading my story. After our initial meeting, just wait about 10 minutes and you’ll see how affectionate I can be. I have spent the first part of my life surviving. Now I would like someone to teach me about kindness, hope and love. I hope to see you in Joplin soon.
