Gianna is a 96-pound brindle beauty with a big personality, an even bigger heart, and a whole lot of progress to celebrate.
Found as a stray in Chicago, Gianna came into rescue needing time to learn what a safe, stable life could look like. She has been through a lot, including likely being overbred, but this resilient girl continues to show everyone just how ready she is for her next chapter.
And lately? Gianna has been crushing it.
She has made huge strides around other dogs and has even started initiating play! After needing more space and careful introductions early in foster care, Gianna is becoming increasingly comfortable around her canine foster friends and is showing everyone her playful side.
Gianna is also making wonderful progress with her food manners. She was recently surrounded by a whole group of people eating from plates and didn't jump up or try to steal food from the table. She is calmer while eating her own meals, is responding more quickly to cues like "sit," and is learning to take treats more politely.
Because of her history around food, Gianna's meals and high-value treats should still be managed separately from other dogs while her good habits continue to grow. Her ideal adopter will understand the importance of consistency and continuing the progress she has already made.
But there's so much more to Gianna than training. This girl LOVES toys. Toys may occasionally lose the battle, but household belongings are safe. Gianna has been trustworthy in her space, has no potty accidents, and settles nicely when it's time to relax. She also has fantastic recall when going inside and outside and walks beautifully on leash, often trying to stay right next to her person instead of pulling ahead. And if you open the car door? Gianna is ready. Car rides are one of her absolute favorite things. She may need a little boost getting into the vehicle thanks to those surprisingly short legs, but once she's in, she's ready for the adventure.
Gianna is also apparently unfazed by storms and fireworks—a pretty impressive superpower for a dog!
At her core, Gianna is a people dog. She forms deep bonds with the humans she trusts and wants to be part of their everyday life. She'll follow her favorite person from room to room, wiggle her entire body with excitement during a game of fetch, and happily relax nearby while her family goes about their day. One of her foster's favorite sights is Gianna quietly sitting in her room, tail gently wagging, patiently waiting for someone to come spend time with her. She simply wants to belong. Gianna greets her people with the cutest full-body wiggle every time she comes out of her room. She firmly believes personal space is overrated and would happily spend every nap cuddled up as close to you as possible. She loves toys—especially plush ones—but they rarely survive her enthusiastic "quality inspections."
Gianna recently underwent surgery related to the effects of repeated breeding and has healed beautifully. Her adopter should be aware of her history and continue appropriate veterinary follow-up.
Gianna's ideal family will have experience managing food-related behaviors and will continue reinforcing the great progress she has already made. Older children are recommended, and any canine companions should be introduced slowly and thoughtfully, with meals and high-value treats kept separate.
