Solara is a 6-year-old red smooth-haired Dachshund with a gentle spirit and a story that has shaped who she is today. She came from a commercial breeding facility where life was not kind to her, and the experience left her very unsure about people. Because of that, Solara is extremely shy, skittish and startles easily. She prefers to be touched only on her own terms and needs time to feel safe.

Despite everything she has been through, Solara is slowly learning that the world can be a better place. She has made progress in foster care, but she is still very fearful of people. What she needs most is a patient, understanding adopter who will let her move at her own pace and celebrate the small victories along the way. We don't know if she will ever be a snuggler, as she is very guarded, but we are hoping as she continues to make progress that she will be more open to pets and cuddles.

Solara delights in some simple pleasures. She likes going outside, exploring the world in a safe environment, so a securely fenced yard is a requirement. She enjoys basking in the sun and doing squiggle rolls in the grass. Solara also does well with other dogs, who help her feel more comfortable and confident, so she will need a resident dog in her forever home. It is best to start with her on a leash at all times to ensure her safety and help with approachability.

Solara is spayed, up to date on vaccines, on heartworm prevention, kennel trained and she is doing well with potty training. She would do best in a calm home, with a companion canine and a patient person (or family) who understands that trust takes time. With kindness, consistency, and a gentle approach, Solara has the potential to blossom into a devoted companion.

The suggested adoption donation for Solara is a minimum of $400 and goes toward the high cost of veterinary care for our rescue dogs.Wag N Train Terrier Rescue adopts to an extended geographical area as long as we can locate a local volunteer to perform the required home visit. Approved adopters are required to travel to Omaha, NE to pick up their newly adopted dog. We do not arrange transport, or fly our rescue dogs without a "pet nanny". All of our dogs that come from a commercial breeding facility require a securely fenced yard AND a resident companion dog, unless the dog's bio states otherwise.
