Wiley is a 1-year-old Doberman with a big heart, a sharp mind, and a sensitive spirit. Playful, loyal, and naturally timid in new situations, he is the type of dog who forms deep bonds once he feels safe. Wiley thrives on routine and has quickly fallen in love with his daily training walks through the city, where he practices focused walking, greeting new people, and calmly observing other dogs. He enjoys exploring familiar routes, carrying his favorite toys around the house, chewing on squeaky bones, and chasing ice cubes across the floor. After his 1–2 hours of exercise, he settles beautifully for long afternoon naps. At home, Wiley is gentle, sweet, and incredibly affectionate. He’s a true “Velcro dog” who loves being near his people and notices immediately when someone is missing from the household. Though he struggles with separation anxiety and becomes distressed when left alone, he does find comfort resting in his crate while his humans are home and is practicing short sessions of independent time each day. Despite his anxieties, Wiley is eager to please and remarkably intelligent. He has already mastered several commands including sit, paw, down, stay, and protect, and is currently learning leave it, eyes, here, and orbit. He responds well to structure and consistency, and with continued training he will continue to flourish. Wiley absolutely loves making new dog friends as long as he has a proper, calm introduction. When another dog is too forward or he’s caught off guard, he’ll shyly hide behind his person and ask for reassurance. He’s equally enthusiastic with people, often wanting to greet strangers with excitement before remembering his training. While confident and curious in some areas, he is easily overwhelmed by elevators, stairwells, loud tools, and other unpredictable noises, and benefits from patient guidance as he builds confidence in busy environments. His foster’s favorite things about him are his sweetness and sensitivity, the way he checks in during play to make sure everyone is okay, his unwavering loyalty, and how impressively smart he is. Wiley loves learning and is happiest when given purpose, structure, and the chance to succeed. He is house-trained, crate-trained, and playful in a gentle, thoughtful way. Wiley is looking for a home that can offer stability, routine, and ongoing training. Because he is a large, strong young Doberman with energy and enthusiasm, he will do best with adopters who are confident handling an active dog and can provide daily exercise and mental stimulation. He would thrive in a home where someone is around often or where there are additional people or animals to help ease his transitions. With the right support, Wiley will grow into an extraordinary companion—loyal, loving, intelligent, and endlessly devoted to his family.
