Poor Ace found himself abandoned and all alone in a rural middle Tennessee community.  He was wandering aimlessly and was picked up by animal control.  There, he spent a couple of weeks in a loud and unclean facility.  He was not even groomed until someone showed interest in adopting him.  This poor matted boy was then shaved super close causing red burns on his skin.  He was then neutered, given all his shots and handed over to his new family. Ace was not properly screened for any behavior issues.  Based on his condition and experience in animal control, we believe that Ace was abused by a man in his former family. His adoptive mom loves him and is doing her best.  , she and her husband are not experienced in these matters and are overwhelmed. Ace is an affectionate dog who loves to snuggle and constantly seeks his mom’s attention. He pushes his way into her lap until she finally gives in, even when trying to work. Eventually, she has to pause work and cuddle with him so he'll stop nudging his head into her chest.   Calming treats and doggie Xanax are helping—he now spends most of the day peacefully sleeping. The calming collar is effective as well; he now rests much more. However, Ace is still snappy and nippy, but only toward her husband, although he did snap at her the other day.  Ace absolutely loves going on walks and will trot happily beside you.  He puts the brakes on when asked to go into the backyard.  (He may have been left outside alone for long periods.) Ace was definitely a 'momma's boy.'  The other night, she fell asleep in the recliner. Ace slept with her all night, curled up on her chest.  The next night, though, he went straight into his crate, settled onto his bed, and fell asleep.  He’s comfortable with both routines.  While she is working from home, he stays close by—snuggling next to her on the sofa or curling up under the recliner on a blanket that hangs off the edge. He doesn’t let her out of his sight.  It’s clear that whoever had him before spoiled him, and we are certain it was a woman. Unfortunately, a man likely mistreated him. Her husband offers treats, which Ace accepts without biting, but if he tries to pet him, Ace doesn’t react well.  Ace is 13 lbs and 3 years old.  The ideal home for him would be a single woman or a couple with experience with mistreated small dogs.  Ace will be an excellent addition to the right home.  He has a lot of love to give in return.  He just needs a patient and loving family who will teach him that nothing bad is ever going to happen again.  Once he trusts you he will be a loyal family member.  Helping an abused dog blossom is more that work the work.   We know you are out there.  To help Ace as a foster or forever family, please text or email Vivienne at 615-943-7311 or vivienneajames@gmail.com.  HELP US HELP ACE!!!  April 12, 2026, 2:47 pm
