Meet Mila!

A spirited almost five-year-old Labrador Retriever/Australian Cattle Dog mix currently in Wrangell, AK, whose presence is a lively blend of strength, loyalty, and reddish brown charm with white accents.

She is an athletic girl who thrives on movement, whether she is racing after a Chuck-it ball, trotting beside her person on a run, or exploring wooded trails with eager curiosity! At home, Mila shows her softer side as an affectionate companion who enjoys relaxing close to her people and even sharing a cozy spot in bed when invited.

She is crate-trained, house-trained, and proudly responds to a long list of commands like sit, stay, lay down, speak, and even fun tricks like spinning or weaving through legs! Car rides, snuffle mats, and daily routines bring her a sense of joy and comfort, and she lights up when given both structure and the occasional surprise adventure.

Mila is wonderfully compatible with cats and has shown calm, respectful behavior around chickens and ducks, making her a unique companion for a mixed animal environment. She forms strong bonds with familiar people and brings a delightful quirk to daily life, including her charming one-sided snarly smile that appears during her most relaxed, happy moments.

Mila has a nuanced relationship with other dogs that reflects both her social potential and areas where she needs thoughtful guidance. She has shown that she can interact positively and even form friendly connections with certain dogs, especially when given space from her sibling and introduced in a calm, structured way. At the same time, she experiences intermittent dog-directed reactivity, where moments of tension can escalate quickly and, in some cases, resulted in her physically engaging with other dogs, often linked to anxiety or resource guarding around items like toys or valued spaces. These responses are not constant, which can make them feel unpredictable, but they are more likely to appear in environments she considers her own or when unfamiliar dogs enter her space.

On leash, Mila is manageable and responsive, though she does require a handler who stays vigilant around other dogs. With consistent routines and positive reinforcement, Mila shows a real ability to navigate social situations more comfortably while continuing to build positive associations.

Mila would do well in a structured, experienced home where she can be the only dog, ideally with an active individual or couple who can provide daily outlets like running, hiking, and plenty of fetch. A home without young children and with a calm, predictable environment will help her feel secure, while clear routines and positive reinforcement will support her continued growth. She thrives with caregivers who are attentive, consistent, and excited to engage both her body and mind, giving her the balance of adventure and stability she needs to shine.
