Roo is a 1-year-old spayed female Heeler mix with a gentle spirit who is still learning that the world—and the people in it—can be safe. She came from a situation where she didn’t receive much positive human interaction, so she is understandably unsure and a bit aloof around people right now. Roo is not aggressive; she simply prefers to keep her distance until she feels comfortable.Roo is starting to make progress and is doing better on a leash—she’s even beginning to enjoy going for walks. Walks are becoming a great way for her to build confidence and explore her surroundings at her own pace.While she may be hesitant at first, once you’re able to catch her, she allows you to hold her and love on her, showing that she does have a sweet and affectionate side just waiting to come out. She will need a patient and understanding owner who is committed to socializing her and helping her learn that humans are safe and kind.Because of her sensitive nature, Roo would do best in a calm home without young children, where she can build confidence in a quiet and predictable environment.Roo can show barrier reactivity with other dogs, but when properly introduced to calm, respectful dogs, she has done okay. Because of this, a meet and greet will be required for any dogs already in the home to ensure it’s a good match.Roo would likely thrive in a home with a secure yard where she can explore and decompress while continuing to grow.
