Meet gunner - foster needed!

Gunner is a 6-year-old neutered male weighing about 40 pounds who is struggling in the shelter environment and urgently needs a foster home where he can decompress. Shelters are overwhelming places for many dogs, and Gunner is one of them. The constant noise, activity, and confinement have made him increasingly anxious, and he would benefit greatly from the stability of a home while we evaluate what he needs long term. About Gunner Gunner is a high energy dog who enjoys playing fetch and does best when he has structure and an outlet for his energy. He is house trained and crate trained and previously lived in a home environment for several years. He has shown signs of anxiety, particularly in stressful environments. He was previously prescribed medication to help manage this but has not been on medication for about six months.  Dog Compatibility Gunner does well with other dogs his size and may actually do best in a home that already has another confident dog. He previously lived with a female dog and reportedly did well. However, he should not live with small dogs, as he has a tendency to chase them. Cats He has no known history with cats, but with him chasing small dogs, a home without cats is preferred. Children Gunner is not a good fit for a home with young children. While he has been around older children and done well with a 5-year-old, he showed concerning behavior toward a toddler in his previous home and would bark and snap when passing by. (We suspect the toddler made him anxious.) No bites have occurred, but because of this history we are seeking a calmer home without young children. Why He Needs a Foster Gunner has been surrendered twice. • His first home surrendered him after concerns about interactions with their toddler. • He was later adopted by an older couple, but he pulled the woman down while chasing an animal and they were unable to manage his energy. Neither situation means Gunner is a bad dog. It means he needs the right environment and people who understand an anxious, energetic dog. Ideal Foster Home Gunner would do best in a home that has: • No young children • No small dogs or cats • Possibly another medium or large dog companion • Someone who can give him exercise, structure, and patience while he decompresses Why Fostering Matters Right now the shelter environment is working against Gunner. A foster home would allow us to better understand his needs, help him settle, and set him up for success in a future permanent home. If you can open your home to Gunner, even temporarily, you could make a life changing difference for him.   If you are interested in giving him a permanent home, please complete our adoption application. If you are able to foster him, please complete our foster application. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 8, 2026, 12:06 pm
