Carmelita was abandoned as a three-month-old puppy at a building site, it was the rainy season in Mexico, everything was wet and muddy and poor Carmelita spent days begging the not-so friendly builders for scraps of food. A man who ran a dog boarding kennel happened to walk past and took Carmelita in his own business was folding due to the lack of clients and he had to move to another city, but he could not leave Carmelita to fend for herself. For weeks he tried to rehome her to no avail given the low dog adoption rates in Mexico and the high abandonment levels. He called a good friend who told him there was an American woman with dementia who had a shelter in a nearby town and that her shelter was closing down, but to try his luck. How could anyone turn Carmelita down? Of course, even if the shelter is in crisis and closing down, Carmelita was taken in. Carmelita is the most loving, gentle dog out there. She will make anyones heart melt. Before she flew to Seattle, she saw how her fellow rescue Milo was struggling with adjusting to non-shelter surroundings, and shes been showing him the way, guiding him in trusting people and above all, in having fun together. These two are a perfect pair, they will bring you lots of joy. Ideally, we would like them to be adopted together, however Carmelita is not as attached to Milo, as Milo is to her. She has gone on a couple field trips and does not pull on the leash, just wants to smell all the smells. She is incredibly sweet and loves to be cuddled. She gets along with all the dogs at the ranch, however will let another dog know through a low growl if she doesn't want to interact. She has never been aggressive to any dogs at the ranch.
