Meet mildred blue ribbon belle
With soft eyes and a name that feels like it belongs on a handwritten recipe card… this is Mildred. If she was a person she would be found on a well-loved porch rocker.
Want to see this gentle old-soul girl in motion? Head to YouTube and then come right back to fall a little deeper in love. https://youtu.be/p-5z_dc0Cqk
Mildred is estimated to be about 2.5 years old, weighs 47 lbs (with a cozy five-ish pounds still to gain), and is likely a pittie mix, though as always with rescue, breed and birthday are our best guess. What isn’t a guess? She has that quiet, appreciative look in her eyes that makes you instinctively soften your voice. On leash, she’s thoughtful. She doesn’t drag you down the sidewalk or spin herself into knots. She could use a bit of polishing, yes, but she walks with a “let’s figure this out together” kind of energy. She listens. She adjusts. She tries.
And that’s the theme with Mildred: she tries.
She welcomes touch and after a little wandering around in the sun time she will always choose her people and the comfort and love they bring. Meeting dogs is new territory for her. Having spent much of her life on a chain (we only share because that is her past in every sense), social introductions aren’t second nature yet but she naturally makes good choices despite her uncertainty. With calm guidance and positive feedback, she responds beautifully. You can almost see the learning happening in real time. She checks in. She adjusts. She lets it go. This is why we choose rescue!
When energy picked up in the yard, she was confident and happy to be part of the fun. She isnt going to be the party starter but its easy to see her confidence grow in watching other dogs enjoy themselves. She seems to pick up on the sense of safety that comes from play and all we can see is a dog who wants to get it right.
Right now, Mildred would do best with a medium to low-energy dog who won’t overwhelm her while she continues learning the rhythm of dog life. She did well with every dog we introduced, and with continued positive experiences, her confidence will only continue to grow.
She will also be learning how to live inside a home. Things like trash cans might seem like treasure chests at first. That’s not mischief, that’s survival instinct slowly unlearning itself. The good news? She is very treat motivated and eager to bond. Food is a bridge for her. So is patience. So is your steady leadership.
Mildred is not flashy, she’s not chaotic. She’s not here to be the loudest personality in the room. She is here to be someone’s steady companion. The kind who pads quietly behind you. The kind who settles at your feet. The kind who watches you with so much love and gratitude over and over and chooses you again and again.
She is learning and she is absolutely going to steal your heart as you watch her blossom into an even sweeter version of herself!
