Meet Ponyo! This charming, playful senior gentleman is thriving in his foster home and proving every day that age is just a number. At 9 years young and about 49 pounds, Ponyo is the perfect blend of curious explorer and cozy couch companion. He enjoys leisurely strolls, soaking up the sunshine, and then heading home to relax and snuggle with his people. With his expressive ears, gentle manners, and goofy charm, Ponyo has a way of winning over everyone he meets.Ponyo has excellent house manners and is fully housetrained—no accidents at all! He follows a consistent routine but will politely let you know if he needs to go out outside of scheduled times. When left alone, he settles in beautifully, spending his day lounging, playing with toys, or sunbathing until his people return. In the evenings, he’s all about playtime, dinner, and then a full night of restful sleep.This smart boy knows a variety of commands, including sit, paw, other paw, lay down, go lay down, “catch,” and “up.” He’s currently learning to catch treats mid-air and is very proud of himself! Ponyo is treat-motivated, gentle when taking snacks, and loves engaging in play—especially with his favorite durable tire toy, which keeps him happily entertained for hours.Ponyo is affectionate and people-oriented, forming strong bonds with his humans and happily soaking up attention and cuddles. He’s done well with familiar visitors and enjoys having trusted people stop by to spend time with him. Ponyo also has experience with 8 and 13 year old kids and has proven to be a great companion!On leash, Ponyo generally walks well and enjoys taking in the world around him. He can become excited and pull when he spots other dogs, but he’s actively working on this with positive reinforcement and continued training. Ponyo would do best as the only pet in the home, where he can feel secure and relaxed.This sweet boy has a playful side balanced with a love for rest—he truly embraces both fun and relaxation. Recently, he enjoyed an outing filled with sunshine and new sights, happily taking in the world around him.Ponyo has also started to show some alert barking at noises outside, followed by moments where he seeks reassurance from his people. He’s looking for a home that will continue to build his confidence and provide comfort when he feels unsure.Ponyo is overall a joyful, loving companion who’s ready to settle into a home where he can continue to thrive.
