Meet chestnut

Chestnut is a 12-month-old Goldendoodle weighing about 20 pounds, with a heart as soft as his curls. He was rescued from a hoarding situation by a compassionate Good Samaritan who knew he deserved far more than the life he was living. She reached out to our rescue in hopes of finding Chestnut the stable, loving home he has always deserved.

Despite his difficult start, Chestnut has a gentle, resilient spirit and a very sweet disposition. He’s a laid-back boy with happy, playful moments sprinkled throughout his day, but at heart he’s more of a snuggler than a busy puppy. He’s content lounging near his people, soaking up affection, and simply being part of everyday life.

Chestnut truly embraces the relaxed lifestyle. While he’s not much of a toy lover, he prefers to lounge on the bench by the window, quietly watching the world go by. He enjoys daily walks and light adventures but doesn’t require nonstop activity.

He has been in his foster home long enough and is more than ready for a permanent family of his own. We are looking for truly committed adopters who understand that bringing a dog into their home is a lifelong responsibility. After everything he’s been through, we want to ensure Chestnut does not experience being bounced around again.

He has been making great progress with potty training, especially since being neutered. Due to his past and spending long periods alone, he may still mark at times, but with patience, routine, and continued training, he is expected to do very well.

When it comes to companionship, Chestnut truly shines. His favorite place is right next to you — or curled up in your lap. He adores affection, happily rolls over for belly rubs, and thrives on human connection.

Chestnut does well with other playful dogs who match his energy level. A slow, proper introduction is important, but once comfortable, he has an absolute blast with his foster’s current dogs back at home. He would do best in a home that understands how to set him up for success with thoughtful introductions and structure. He is not compatible with cats.

Chestnut is neutered, vet-checked, up to date on all vaccines, dewormed, microchipped, and 4DX negative. Foster-to-adopt is available. He is currently being fostered in Dover, NJ.

If you’re ready to make a long-term commitment and give Chestnut the consistency, security, and unconditional love he deserves, please email info@rootrescue.org
