Meet fern #2
Animal Rescue of the Rockies believes every pet should find a wonderful and caring home. We review each application in the order submitted and will contact you within 48 hours (please check your spam folder for our emails) . Fern | 13-week-old Staffie Mix | Wiggly, Snuggly Little Shadow Fern is a 13-week-old Staffie mix weighing just 9 pounds, with a sleek black coat and a touch of white that makes her expressions even sweeter. She is a joyful, affectionate little puppy who wants to be part of whatever you’re doing — whether that’s playtime in the yard, a car ride, or curling up under the covers at night. One of her favorite things is resting her head on your shoulder while being held, soaking up all the love she can get. Fern is about 50% potty trained and has just begun learning the routine, so she will need continued consistency and positive reinforcement as she grows. She is not yet crate-trained, though she is starting to get comfortable eating meals and spending short, calm periods in the crate. Like many puppies, she may whine a bit when crated at first, but she responds well to structure and gentle boundaries. She knows “come,” is working on “sit,” and is eager to learn — she’s a smart little girl who is motivated by food, toys, and affection. She has had positive interactions with dogs of all sizes, happily playing with pups both smaller and larger than she is. She’s appropriate in her play, though she can get adorably excited at times — typical puppy energy. She has also done well with cats and has been very friendly and enthusiastic around children, including kids under 10. Overall, she is a sweet, playful, submissive, and loving puppy who settles nicely for naps and bedtime after getting her physical and mental stimulation. Fern loves toys of all kinds, especially chew toys, plush toys, and peanut butter-filled bones. She enjoys fetch, walks, car rides, and dancing around with her signature prance. She even likes to burrow under blankets and show her belly for rubs. Fern was found as a stray in Houston in a roadside ditch with her siblings. She has mild Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH), which makes her slightly uncoordinated at times and causes occasional head tremors. It does not cause her any pain, does not worsen over time, and does not stop her from doing all the normal, happy puppy things. In fact, it just adds to her extra-adorable charm when she runs and plays. Her ideal home is one that has the time and patience to continue her training and socialization while embracing her joyful spirit. She currently prefers carpet, runners, and grass for zoomies, though she is learning to navigate hardwood floors and will likely continue improving as she grows. Most of all, Fern is looking for a loving family ready to cherish a happy, resilient little pup who brings endless sweetness and laughter wherever she goes.
