Meet polly pocket
Looking for a sweet, low-maintenance friend? Look no further than POLLY POCKET! Life hasn’t always been kind to Polly, but this girl hasn’t let that dim her hope! Polly was found as a stray in the Bronx and was brought to the Manhattan ACC where she was soon picked up by a foster and on to a better life! After a fresh haircut, spay and dental cleaning, and lots of love, she’s eager to meet the forever family she was always meant to have!
Polly is an easy-going 13-year-old, 12 lb. Shih Tzu who appreciates the simple things in life! She is happy hanging out in a dog bed watching the daily goings on, patrolling her foster home for possible dropped and undiscovered snacks, or going on leisurely neighborhood walks and sniffing what the world has to offer! While she is in her golden years, she is a sturdy gal who we anticipate has a lot of life left!
Polly is an adaptable and undemanding dog who will work around your schedule. She’s happy to sleep in or get up early. She sleeps soundly through the night in her dog bed without a peep. She has no separation anxiety and would be fine with someone who was out for periods of the day. She does enjoy the company of people, however, and if you’ve been out for a bit and come back home, she will give several sweeping wags of her tail and come up to you in greeting. She is one of those dogs that, while quiet, has a sweet, happy presence that grows on you. You can’t help but love her.
She has no preference to men or women and will easily allow petting from children as well, including strangers. She is fine with anyone and everyone who gives her snacks and attention.
Speaking of snacks, Polly LOVES snacks! Her current favorites are crunchy liver treats and homemade boiled chicken chunks, ideally soaked in its own jus, and at times preferably hand fed one by one rather than unceremoniously served in a bowl. You’d think that Polly had dined at La Grenouille in her past life, but we have no issue with her cashing in on the spoiled life and we are happy to serve her! If Polly chose to manufacture her own Polly Pocket set, it would without a question be a kitchen scene with one human, a stainless steel soup pot, several cuts of chicken, vintage China plates (for looks only), a vase with flowers (she likes the ambiance), a sofa, a chair, a floor pillow, and a fluffy donut dog bed. You do the math. (*If you don’t know what Polly Pocket is, look it up! It’s very cute!).
Polly gets along great with other dogs and would be equally fine living as a solo dog or with other dogs. She is currently in a home with a Shih Tzu, and with her previous foster, she lived with 2 chihuahuas plus other dog guests of various breeds/ages/sizes who would come and go and was fine with them! She is unfazed about dogs on the street. We haven’t observed her with cats but we are pretty sure Polly wouldn’t give a hoot about a cat given her chill personality. For the most part, Polly minds her own business but will gently sniff/say hello to her housemates and new dogs she meets and go about her day. She does not resource guard anything, nor does she care what other dogs may have in their possession. She is tolerant of various dog personalities and takes cues well. If a dog barks at her or gets grabby with an item/food, she will walk the other way.
Polly allows handling from everyone. She doesn’t care who leashes her up and walks her. She is happy to be picked up and carried around if needed, she is easy to bathe and doesn’t struggle much when her nails are trimmed. On colder days, she is fine with having her various sweaters taken on or off (“Fashion Polly!”). She takes her daily eye drops like a champ. And she doesn’t say no when you give her a cuddle and kiss on the cheek.
Housetraining wise, she will always do all her business efficiently outside. In her previous home, she also used wee wee pads that were easily accessible to her. In her current foster home, she is mostly in diapers and is fine with them.
Shedding? Virtually non-existent.
Polly isn’t just for the senior dog lovers out there! She would be an excellent companion for someone who is simply looking for a low-key, low-maintenance, and endearing furry companion. And, of course, someone who is willing on occasion to bring to life her fantasy Polly Pocket set. We are excited to see what her future holds!
