WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care.Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. Because of his tiny size, people in the home should be very aware of his movements and actions at all times, especially when walking, as he can easily be underfoot. Extra care should be taken to avoid walking between legs or stepping over him, since accidental bumps or falls could cause injury. He would thrive either as the only dog in the home or with one very small, calm, gentle dog that respects his space. High-energy or rough-playing dogs would not be a good match for him. Due to the soft spot on the top of his head, gentle handling is essential. A patient home that understands the needs of an extra-small dog and is committed to close supervision will help him stay safe, comfortable, and confident.Medical: Nilly Willy has an open fontanelle, meaning the soft spot on the top of his skull has not fully closed. While this is not uncommon in extra-small dogs, it does make his head more vulnerable to injury. With proper precautions and a safety-minded home, he can live comfortably, but adopters should be aware of his special medical consideration. WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Nilly Willy spent his entire life as a breeding dog in a puppy mill. When his 'breeders' decided they no longer had a use for him, they planned to discard him. Thankfully, WISE was able to step in and rescue him giving him a second chance to experience the love and warmth of a real home.
