Meet sakura

My name is Sakura and I’m looking for my forever home! I’m still a puppy – I just recently turned 1 y.o. I came to my foster home here in Chicago after recovering from Parvo Virus. That was no fun! There were 11 of us Shibas who got sick and a very kind vet hospital in MO convinced our breeder/owner to surrender us so we could get life-saving treatment. SIRA stepped in and agreed to cover the cost of vet care and to rescue us. I’m a good girl here in my foster home. I’m learning about what it’s like to live in a home with humans. So far, I like it – especially the soft, snuggly beds, toys to play with, and yummy treats!! There are other dogs here and they’re really helping me to gain confidence and to learn how to play. Loud noises spook me, like the vacuum cleaner or passing cars, but I’m getting more and more comfortable and confident. I’m very affectionate and love people – especially when they reassure me and tell me I’m a good girl! Oh, and the treats. Those help too. I’m getting the hang of walking on a leash – it helps when the other dogs walk with me. My ideal forever home will have a securely fenced yard for me to play in and another dog or more to help me continue to learn and adapt. They will want to take care around open doors and gates to keep me safe since Shibas are escape artists. Older children would probably be fine, but little kids might not be a good fit since I like to jump up on people (foster mom and I are working on that). I haven’t met any cats, but foster mom thinks I’d do okay with a friendly, calm, dog-savvy cat. I’m a healthy girl now, spayed, vaccinated and 23-lbs. If you’re looking for a sweet, affectionate girl to add to your family, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt for more information and to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you and your home so they can make sure we’d be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet.
