Meet Hazel Mae - a 10-year-old, Hound mix, who weighs 62 pounds (as of 12/27/25). While Sweet Hazel Mae has lived in a loving home with a toddler, she realizes she much prefers to be in a home with school-aged and older kiddos! So whether you've got a twelve-year-old with a sense of adventure or a moody teen who's giving you the silent treatment for no reason, Hazel is sure to bring smiles to their faces! This girl's on the lookout for her fur-ever home and she hopes it could be yours!
Hazel Mae is incredibly sweet and lovable! She also does great with other dogs and is very mellow when she's around them. Did we mention she is also fine around cats?! She is housebroken, walks well on her leash and will show you where to go, and loves to go for car rides. Hazel also knows commands like "sit," "stay," "paw," and "lie down." And they say you can't teach an old dog new tricks! Hazel enjoys having her food to herself and she's also a great actress so don't be fooled if you find her using those adorable eyes to beg after she just ate lunch!
She is a hound who communicates with her voice but she's not obnoxious about it. She'll let you know that she needs to go out or if a visitor is arriving at your home.
Hazel Mae loves to go for walks and spending time outside - she'd love to find a home with a fenced in backyard, but not a requirement. The only thing Hazel Mae isn't a fan of is thunderstorms (can you blame her?) so be sure to belt like Julie Andrews and remind her of her favorite things! Hazel Mae is looking for a loving home with a family who will take her on walks and cuddle with her as well. A family with room in their heart for this sweet, senior gal.
All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.
Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
