Meet thelma

Granny Thelma and Lady Louise have been together their whole lives. They had the same owner who clearly loved them so much.
They came into animal control after DPD picked them up from a call where their owner was DOA. Their owner truly did everything right — both girls are spayed, heartworm negative, and Thelma’s microchip shows it was implanted 13 years ago, when she was just a pup. They were very much house dogs, loved, and even a little chunky. He did everything right… just not outlive them. 💔
The shelter made a plea for them, asking please don’t let this be their final resting place… and no one stepped up. When we saw them again at the shelter, sad in their kennels, we figured — what’s two more temporary house guests at the senior center we’ve got going on right now? 🤪
And these two have been incredible house guests.
They clearly know what it’s like to live in a home. They love the couch, dog beds, and being together. They’re potty trained, quiet, content, sweet as pie, and so far don’t need to be crated at all. They sleep peacefully curled up side by side. They enjoy the presence of the other dogs, especially calm old fart dogs like them.
They are deeply bonded.
When I gave Thelma (the older sister with hip issues) a bath, Louise climbed in and literally positioned herself between Thelma and the wall to help prop her up. 🥹 They’re almost always touching, and Louise gets frantic if Thelma wanders off without her.
They don’t mind our dogs one bit, and I actually think living with other dogs could be really beneficial — Louise is going to be absolutely shattered when she eventually loses her sister. 😭
Both girls are overall healthy. Thelma is in the beginning stages of renal failure and has arthritis in her back hips — stairs and getting on/off the couch are hard — but she’s a determined old lady. Louise has fewer mobility issues but still prefers a little royal lift onto the couch. 😂
I know this is a big, big ask… but there has to be someone out there for two easygoing, gentle souls who’ve lost everything except each other.
