Proper’s journey began with uncertainty. She was abandoned and left to wander the city streets before being picked up by animal control and brought to the shelter. In that overwhelming environment, she was understandably timid and cautious about being touched—unsure of who she could trust.
Once Proper was given time, patience, and reassurance, her true self began to shine. She doesn’t rush into affection, but when approached gently and with respect, she opens up quickly and enjoys quiet, meaningful connection. Proper simply asks to be met where she is—and when she is, her trust is a beautiful thing to earn.
Now thriving in a loving foster home, Proper has shown just how special she is. She is mellow, calm, and well-mannered, house trained, and walks nicely on leash. She coexists peacefully with dogs and cats, often content to mind her own business. However, she has exhibited some food-guarding behavior towards other dogs and should be fed alone and kept away from food prep areas if there's another dog in the home. The good news is that as time goes by, her fosters have noticed her becoming less insecure and more relaxed around high value items.
