Meet gertie

Meet Me, Yes I said it ME… Gertie!
I’m 4 years old, a French Bulldog, and I’m currently hanging out with the amazing humans at Freedom Frenchie Rescue. I came from Riverside County Animal Shelter, where I was placed on the euthanasia list because of something called IVDD. A lot of people passed on me. A lot of pleas went unanswered. But then Mo listened to her gut (she’s good at that) and said, “Fuck it. Let’s pull her.” And just like that… my life changed (literally I was at the beach with this her and Tyke (Mo’s sidekick) that day!
Mo believes in bodies like mine. She’s seen what chiropractic care, support, and early intervention can do—and she believed that if someone helped me now, before things progressed, I could have a really good life. She was right.
My Body, My Power
Yes, I have a mild case of IVDD. Sometimes my legs forget the plan and my neck gets stiff. Ill lean to the side like I’m from LB or something but I have no idea where I am from I just heard the humans chatting it up ( I can’t mind my business to often).
But let me be very clear—I run, play, zoom, and live my life on all fours just like any other Frenchie. Louder for people in the back ON ALL FOURS!
I’m not incontinent (actually potty trained). I’m learning my body. I’m getting stronger every day. And honestly? I surprise everyone (including myself) with how resilient I am. With continued care and support, my people expect me to stay comfortable, active, and happy—and I fully intend to prove them right. I start my chiropractic appointments next week and they will need to be continued. Don’t freak out it’s not that pricey ( its like going to the human chiro). If you want me in your life for a long time, then you can do this!
My Personality: Spunky, Independent & Just a Little Bossy
If confidence had a face, it might look like mine. Nothing slows me down. I’m independent… but also needy. Confident… but I really want to belong (some might be a little fake, what do you expect I’m a Frenchie). I like doing my own thing, but I always know where my people are. I’ll check in just to remind you I still exist—even while I’m playing. Multitasking is kind of my thing. I do love my friends when I met Tyke I followed her around for awhile. I wasn’t sure if I fit in but that goof ball went right on her back and I knew I was her friend immediately!
I also have classic Frenchie commentary. Think sorority girl who absolutely needs to be heard. If I can’t see you, I will remind you—loudly—that I am still here and available for attention.
Brains, Training & Snuggles
I’m smart and I know it and I’m also a smartass. Lol I’m doing great in my new foster home with house training and I already understand sit, stay, and down like a professional. I take treats gently (because manners matter), and my cuddle skills? Let’s just say I already have my bachelor’s degree and I’m actively working on my master’s. I can also open gates. So don’t underestimate me. I go where I want, when I want—with grace, confidence, and just the right amount of mischief.
Friends, Dogs & My Social Circle
When I arrived at my new foster home, things were done right. I was given time, space, and rest after being spayed, and my IVDD was respected. The 3-3-3 Rule was followed, and it made all the difference. That is a must with every rescue in sace you were not aware of that one!
I can be a little dominant at first—I like to know where I stand—but once another dog shows me they’re cool, I soften fast. Then it’s all play, chase, and friendship… with a gentle reminder that I might still be the boss. Peanut butter jelly time baby lettsss go!
So far, I’ve done amazing with other dogs, and I just keep shining.
From My Heart
I’ve been through a lot. And I know it. I wish I could tell these humans so much but our communication lacks in that area.
I’m grateful. I’m affectionate. I’m funny. I’m resilient. I’m full of life. You know he sunny rays on the AZ flag that’s me! I’m the kind of dog who reminds you why rescue matters.
Not many people chose me.
But the right people did temporarily this time and I’m excited for my future!
And now… I’m ready to choose my forever.
Love,
Gertie
