Roux says 2026 is going to be her year! She's ready for 2025 to be done and start her new, fabulous life in 2026!

We introduced you to Roux back in November when we told you about Roux needing urgent bilateral hernia repair surgery. She was a very sick little girl that had a rough time of it requiring a complicated surgery to fix double abdominal hernias. Roux had her surgery, her recovery went great (other than needing to gain a little weight) and she's finally ready to find her forever home!
Roux is a beautiful 5 yr old smooth chocolate and tan dachshund that was recently released from a commercial breeding facility. When she came in, Roux was terrified of humans. Most of the breeder dogs we get are scared of people when they first come in, but Roux really didn't want to be touched, held or picked up. She wanted nothing to do with people.
It's taken months for Roux to start getting past her fears and realize that being petted and loved on is really nice. She's still not fond of being picked up or having someone hover over her but she has started enjoying attention and will come sit next to you. She even voluntarily climbed into her foster's lap for snuggles for the first time last week!
Her favorite time of day is first thing in the morning. She sleeps in the big bed with her foster and likes to boop her foster on the nose when it's time to get up and then roll around on her back getting belly rubs. She also likes to bop her fellow housemate with her butt to push her out of the way to get more of the attention from her foster.
It will take time and patience in her new home, but we know that your patience will be rewarded as Roux loses her fears and grows into the sweetest little cuddlebug.
Roux loves being around other dogs, including large dogs, and likes to cuddle with them. She will seek out other dogs for comfort and snuggles. (She also lives peacefully with a cat!) Roux requires a confident resident dog to help her settle into her new home and for companionship. Size is negotiable, but her companion must like to cuddle.
Roux enjoys going on walks (not so fond of being picked up to have her harness put on.) When it's warm out, she likes to sit in the sun and soak up some rays. She will require a securely fenced yard for her safety.
Roux is doing well with potty training. She's been through a lot in the past few months, so potty training hasn't been the most important focus. She is kenneled during the day when her fosters are gone (and was on crate rest for several weeks after her surgery.) Although she is used to the kennel, she does sometimes get anxious and mess in her kennel. So she has a little more work to do to master the concept. She is food motivated, so that helps with the training process.
This sweet girl has been through so much in her 6 years of life. She is so strong and resilient. Roux has been making great progress in her foster home, but will need more time and lots of patience to continue to bring her out of her shell. That patience will be rewarded with a wonderful little companion. If you think you have the love and patience to welcome Roux into your heart and home, apply to adopt her at www.wagntrainterrierrescue.com/adoption-information.

The suggested adoption donation for Roux is a minimum of $ 400 and goes toward the high cost of veterinary care for our rescue dogs.Wag N Train Terrier Rescue adopts to an extended geographical area as long as we can locate a local volunteer to perform the required home visit. Approved adopters are required to travel to Omaha, NE to pick up their newly adopted dog. We do not arrange transport, or fly our rescue dogs without a "pet nanny".
