Nuggie is a 10 month old, male Golden Retriever looking for a pretty specific type of home, so please read carefully before applying!

This pup is needing an experienced ADULT ONLY household with no visiting young kids or grandkids as he has a history of resource-guarding, and this is not anything to take lightly even with Nuggie being so young. He is doing better now, but Nuggie is still in the working stages and GRRAND is being very careful with where Nuggie is placed. He will NOT be considered for any family with kids, so please understand. 

Nuggie is a beautiful 10 month old Golden. He has been a perfect gentleman at the kennel with both volunteers and other puppy residents! However, he has had two brief visits in foster homes where he showed some dominance and resource guarding tendencies. GRRAND is willing to spend a significant amount of money to put Nuggie in a board-and-train program with a professional trainer to overcome these behaviors, but before we can do that we need a home lined up for Nuggie to go to immediately after training. It needs to be a home with experienced dog owners and no children.

Nuggie is treat motivated and knows simple commands, and he MUST have a family 100% committed to training with him, and giving him plenty of structure, exercise and direction, as this is what he needs. Nuggie has been placed in a home where he resourced something as simple as a pine cone, and it was not positive. He is with GRRAND and by being where he is, he has not been given an opportunity to practice resource guarding. Practice makes perfect... he is not there, but the progress is positive and in the wrong hands, he would’ve gotten better at resource guarding, but his environment does not allow that.

Today he’s well adjusted, is not resource guarding his food, plays great with a tennis ball and gives it back. He plays well with other dogs, and has been socialized with a variety of different people and is getting worked with everyday. He is a good boy, and the goal is to make sure he is ready for his forever home.

He will need an above ground secure fenced yard to romp and play in in a safe environment. He is very trainable as he likes it and responds well to it and he is also house-trained and crate-trained. This is an opportunity to truly 'rescue' a dog, and in return you will get a beautiful, well trained Golden.
