Yes, we know Kemosabe looks a little rough in his photo—but his story explains why.Back in 2021, a small, joyful puppy named Batman left OHAR with a wiggly tail and a bright future ahead of him. We truly believed he had found his forever home. Sadly, forever didn’t last. As time went on, he became less of a priority to the family who once promised him love, and four years later he was returned to us due to “family changes.”The dog who walked back through our doors was not the happy, thriving pup we remembered. He was grossly overweight, missing patches of fur, and suffering from swollen, painful paws. What is clear is this: his physical needs were neglected, his spirit was dulled—but his story is far from over.A fresh start deserves a fresh name, and so he is now Kemosabe, meaning trusty scout. Kemosabe has begun his healing journey with a medically guided weight-management plan and prescription treatments to address his skin and paw issues. Most importantly, he needs time, patience, and compassion to rediscover what it feels like to be safe, valued, and truly loved.Kemosabe is looking for a foster or adopter willing to walk beside him on this next chapter—someone who can help heal not only his body, but his heart. Could that be you?Adoption Process: After your application is approved, a home visit is schedule. We will bring the pet to you and help with introductions to your current pet(s). You will then have a week with the pet to ensure they are the right fit for your home. At the end of the week, you finalize the adoption and the pet is officially part of your family!
