Meet Gene: A Lovable Mix of Loyalty and Joy 🖤🐾

Gene is a 7–8 year old Pit Bull/Labrador mix with a heart as big as his second chance. This short and stocky sweetheart weighs about 48 lbs and recently joined BAARK Dog Rescue from Central Illinois—just hours before he was scheduled to be euthanized. Thankfully, Gene hopped on transport and landed safely in our care, ready to start his new chapter.

🧬 Breed Blend of Brilliance:
Gene’s Pit Bull side gives him that signature loyalty and playful energy, while his Labrador traits shine through in his gentle nature and love for people. He’s lived a tough, neglectful life, which may make him look a bit older—but don’t let that fool you. He’s agile, happy, and full of life.

🐶 Social & Sweet:
- Loves everyone he meets—humans and dogs alike
- Gentle and playful with kind children (best with older kids)
- Housebroken and well-mannered indoors
- Walks beautifully on leash
- Not a fan of crates, but an excellent passenger on car rides (his favorite!)

Gene prefers lounging inside with occasional walks over spending time in a yard—possibly a reflection of his past life spent outdoors. He’s looking for a home where he can be part of the family, not just a fixture in the backyard.
