Meet rooster

Meet Rooster!

Rooster is the strong, silent type — the kind of dog whose presence speaks louder than words. Big, stoic, and deeply loyal.

Rooster came to Mikaela’s Mutt Motel on December 16, 2024, after arriving at the local animal shelter in heartbreaking condition. He was severely emaciated and clearly had been through more than any dog should have to endure.

Today, Rooster stands as a powerful example of what patience, care, and love can do. He has transformed into a thriving, affectionate dog who is ready to find someone special of his own.

Because Rooster experienced extreme hunger earlier in life, he did develop some resource-guarding behaviors. Recognizing that he deserved every chance to succeed, Rooster was placed on a training hold and worked closely with a professional trainer at Twin Oaks Canine Camp. With time, structure, and guidance, Rooster has made incredible progress and continues to grow every day.

Rooster is looking for a confident, experienced handler who understands the importance of clear boundaries, consistency, and leadership. He does best with someone who respects his space while also providing structure and guidance so he can feel secure.

Due to his size and past behaviors, Rooster will need a home without children. However, he has shown that he can do well with other dogs and even cats when introduced properly.

Underneath his tough exterior is a deeply loving dog who bonds strongly with his person. When Rooster chooses you, he chooses you completely.

Rooster isn’t for everyone — and that’s okay. He’s looking for someone special. Someone patient, confident, and willing to give a remarkable dog the chance to fully become the companion he was meant to be.

For the right person, Rooster won’t just be a pet — he’ll be a once-in-a-lifetime kind of dog.
