Meet sugar

My Ideal HomeSugar would thrive in an adult-only home with someone patient and consistent. A calm, predictable routine, confidence-building training (especially around resource guarding) and enrichment like puzzle toys or scent work will help her feel secure. She does well with structured introductions to new dogs and benefits from adopters who will continue positive reinforcement and trade-up work for food/toy guarding. A household that gives her space when she wants it and rewards voluntary interactions will make her happiest.Good with Kids?No - not recommended for young children. Sugar prefers limited, respectful interactions and can be shy; shelter staff recommend a home without children under 13 so she can relax and have interactions on her terms.Behavior DeterminationLevel 3 - Best suited to adopters with experience or willingness to follow behavior guidance. Sugar displays some resource guarding and anxiety-related appeasement behaviors, so she benefits from calm, consistent handling, training to manage guarding, and enrichment to build confidence. My foster writes: Sugar is as sweet as her name!!! This loving girl adores people and thrives on close companionship, offering affection every chance she gets. During her foster stay, she proved herself to be a loyal, cuddly companion who simply wants to be near her person-on walks, during playtime, or curled up nearby with her favorite toy. Warning: if you are sitting on the couch, she may lean into you for cuddles so enthusiastically that she forgets where the edge is - you may have to catch her or she will roll right off. She's a big fan of her Kong toy frozen with non-fat Greek yogurt and crunchy green apple slices. Smart, sometimes silly, and food-motivated, Sugar is eager to please and ready to learn. She loves to emerge out of her crate in the morning and give you all the cuddles. With a little support, consistency, and a short adjustment period, she settled in beautifully in foster, living her best dog life and making friends with neighbors around the block-she even got shouted compliments from someone riding by on a Citi Bike (yes, she's that cute).Don't be surprised if, once she's comfortable, Sugar starts collecting her favorite toys and bringing them into her crate (and politely throwing out the ones she doesn't love-goodbye, stuffed cat!). She might give you kisses or put her paw on you to show you how happy she is to go on a walk with you. She'll make you laugh with happy wiggles, the occasional joyful parade with a toy or ball proudly in her mouth (sometimes fetch, more often a parade), and plenty of chances to pet her unbelievably soft head. She has all the love to give! Primary Color: White Secondary Color: Tan Weight: 55 Age: 3yrs 3mths 1wks
