Meet Shabazz—affectionately called “Bubby” in his foster home—an 8-year-old, 45-pound sweetheart who is ready to find a family to love forever. Shabazz thrived in foster care, where he showed everyone just how gentle, affectionate, and eager to please he truly was.Shabazz is housetrained, has settled into a routine with no accidents (aside from a little excited pee now and then), and has been sleeping through the night in his crate like a pro—especially when there’s a peanut butter–filled toy involved. He also does well when left alone and happily snoozes in his crate until his people return. During the day, he loves curling up on soft blankets and being as close to his humans as possible—he’s a 40-pound certified lapdog who lives for snuggles.This smart boy is very food motivated and loves learning. In his foster home, he’s working on “sit,” “stay,” and “look,” and he picks things up quickly. On walks, Shabazz may start off with some excited pulling, but he soon relaxes into the walk and enjoys sniffing and exploring at a calm pace. He’s curious about people, dogs, and even wildlife—he’ll pause to take them in but does not bark or lunge. Shabazz has also met his foster’s parents and warmly welcomed them with happy tail wags and sweet charm.Shabazz enjoys his favorite enrichment toys (especially his yak chew, peanut butter-filled bone, and strawberry treat toy), and when he’s tired or seeking comfort, he sometimes suckles gently on a blanket to soothe himself—an endearing habit that speaks to his gentle nature.Shabazz prefers a cat-free home, as he became tense and uncomfortable when he briefly saw the resident cat; he would likely do best in a home without cats unless his adopter has experience with slow, dedicated introductions. He has met other dogs at BARCS and does best with calm, tolerant canine friends, so he’d love to meet any potential dog siblings before heading home.Most of all, Shabazz wants to be by your side. He is loyal, loving, soft-hearted, and will make his future family feel like the luckiest people in the world.Shabazz is currently in the comfort of a foster home.
