Gertrude Alexandra, who goes by Gertie, was dumped at FIDO. She was unhappy in the shelter environment, so she was transferred to Chihuahua Rescue. Apparently, a man wasn't nice to her somewhere in the past as she can be reactive to men. In addition, she is very frightened in new situations; it takes her a couple of days to settle in a new location

Gertie gets on well with small and medium dogs. When nervous or frightened, she's not a biter. Instead, she wants to run away and tries very hard to do that! She needs a securely fenced yard with at least a 4-foot-tall fence and/or a strong commitment from the prospective adopter always to have her collar or harness and leash on whenever there might be an open gate or door to the outside.

Gertie's shots are up to date, and she was spayed 9/15/25. She has mastered crate-training. As long as she gets a tiny treat, she's happy to go into her crate. She rests there quietly, though she enjoys an antler or other toy for a vigorous chewer. If offered regular trips outside, she is reliably potty-trained. She is very food motivated, so that helps a lot with training exercises. She does sit on command and enjoys lap time with her human.

Gerti is full of puppy energy. Zoomies in the yard are a favorite thing. She would love to have a forever home with another dog who will play with her during outside playtimes. I suspect she might be OK with older children who could take the time to go slow with her until she is comfortable with them.

Gertie can be fairly loud when she's excited and has a lot to say. That might be a problem in homes with shared walls. However, if you're into Flyball, she seems fast enough for a championship team!
