Avery is a young American Staffordshire Terrier mix with a heart as big as his puppy energy! Weighing in at around 50+ pounds, this playful guy is always ready for a game of fetch-especially if stuffed animals are involved. He's also a tug-of-war champion, and he'll proudly show off his skills to anyone willing to challenge him! Avery is house and crate trained, making him a great fit for a home that's ready to welcome a fun-loving companion. He enjoys his daily walks and takes his sniffing duties very seriously-every leaf and lamppost gets a thorough investigation! Avery walks so well on a leash without any pulling. When he sees other dogs he just observes as they walk by him on the other side of the street. Avery is learning to settle in his crate when he is in it while his foster mom is at work. He goes in easily with treats and may bark if he can see you but he will settle down shortly after that when left. Because Avery is still a puppy, he does best being crated in a large crate and not left to roam the house at this time. When Avery arrived at the shelter in July 2025, he was severely underweight and had sores on his ears. But even then, his tail wagged and his eyes sparkled with joy just to be around people. Since then, he's made an incredible transformation-he's gained weight, healed beautifully, and truly come out of his shell. Now, he's a happy, playful pup who thrives on love and attention. Avery is still in the puppy stage and is working on some training to help him be a good boy with manners for his furever family. He is still learning to be less mouthy and also not to greet people by jumping up on them. He is a work in progress but is showing progress in the right direction. Avery is looking for a home that is dog savvy and understands that he will need time and patience to help him understand his puppy gestures aren't appropriate behavior. Avery's foster does have elderly cats in her home. Avery does try to play with them; however, the older cats prefer not to engage with Avery's high energy. Slow introductions are always recommended with any other pets in the home. Avery is looking for a forever home where he can continue to blossom and share his goofy, affectionate personality.
