! Please read carefully before proceeding or inquiring about Baloo ! Baloo has significant orthopedic needs that any potential adopter must be prepared to manage long-term. He has had surgery on three of his four legs:• A femoral head ostectomy (FHO) on his back left leg,• Elbow surgery on his front right leg due to a genetic issue (this joint already has arthritis), and• A TPLO surgery on his back right leg in March 2025.He is currently in physical therapy, which has greatly helped his mobility, but he will need ongoing maintenance care, including continued therapy, daily joint supplements, and likely future vet visits. There is also a 40-60% chance that his remaining healthy back leg could suffer a cruciate ligament tear at some point. Please understand that any potential adopter must be financially and emotionally ready to support a dog with these medical needs. Baloo, affectionately named by his foster after the beloved character from The Jungle Book due to his large size and goofy personality, is a true example of resilience, love, and the power of community. This big hearted boy ended up at Wake County Animal Center in 2024 with two broken legs, likely from a car accident. Baloo was passed over for rescue multiple times, but his story took a turn for the better when the shelter refused to give up on him and approved him for foster care. With the dedicated support of his foster family, a group of volunteers, and the generous Friends of Wake County, funds were raised to get Baloo physical therapy that he desperately needed.Baloo has now undergone surgery on three out of four of his legs and is well on his way to recovery. Despite all he's been through, he is living his absolute best life. He loves going to the beach, Downtown Cary Park, Cary Farmer's Market, Bond Brothers and recently even took part in the Surf Dog Experience and was proudly awarded the title of Mr. Congeniality!Those who have met him often laugh at his "singular brain cell" and not-so-brilliant moments but absolutely love watching him discover new things and embrace life to the fullest. He loves water, bird watching, snacking, gardening (ahem, garden gremlin), and has become a favorite at his local Dairy Queen.Baloo is a "teacup breed" in a giant body and adores everyone he meets- human or dog (despite if the feeling is mutual). With a personality as large as his body and a downright infectious goofiness, Baloo lights up every room he waddles into.Baloo has been sweet with children that he has met, but does have limited patience, especially with very young kids as he is still very much a large, toddler himself.
