Meet ambrose

Ambrose is an absolutely stunning, 4-5 y/o, male, hound mix who currently weighs right under 40 pounds. Before we share all the “goodies” about Ambrose and how special he really is, we would like to share Ambrose’s story, so that you will know where he is coming from...

We’re not sure on his full past life, but Ambrose’s whole world was certainly flipped upside down, before coming to our rescue! Ambrose was another classic & heartbreaking owner surrender story that we see and hear often, in rescue, unfortunately.

Upon surrender to Cherokee County’s Animal Shelter, here in Georgia, Ambrose’s previous “hooman” was clearly devastated and heartbroken. She sat with Ambrose, in the shelter, that whole entire afternoon and constantly shed tears for having to do such a thing, but she had no other choice. This was clearly a heartbreaking situation for everyone, in every which way possible. :(

It was not easy, it was confusing and very scary for Ambrose. His owner that surrendered him, was his one and only owner, and she had had him since he was a puppy. And we aren’t sure for exactly how long, but they’d also been living in their car for some time. Ambrose had also been being left in that car, all alone, during the work days, while his “hooman” went to work!

So we’ll leave that part of his history in the past, and fast forward to his arrival into their AC shelter. Ambrose was not doing well in the shelter after his surrender. He was extremely human friendly, but he was so scared and shut down, that he had to literally be carried outside to potty and would not play or do any happy dog activities. With time, he was slowly doing better in some aspects at their shelter, but he was still struggling, confused and lonely. Then as time went on, Ambrose found himself on their urgent list, as space was filling up at the shelter.

We decided as soon as this story and situation was shared with us, we just had to rescue this boy and save him!

Ambrose is house trained and dog friendly. He absolutely adores other doggy housemates! He has done great with all other dogs that he has met too. We aren’t sure about cats, but we are pretty confident that he would do well with them, with proper introductions and guidance.

Ambrose is full of such happiness, love and affection, BUT he needs TIME and PATIENCE, so that he can trust both new humans and new environments. Due to his past life experiences, this special boy is understandably timid and slow to trust, but he certainly does get there. And once he trusts, he offers you the world and he truly becomes a regular “dog” again. Since he is very timid initially, once he trusts you, he 100% looks directly to his human for direction, encouragement and guidance.

And let us tell you, he has the cutest little “happy feet” when he’s going on adventures and excited! You can check his video’s out on our FB page and Instagram pages and/or we can also text/share them directly with you, upon request. :)

Don’t be fooled by his age, this guy is still young both at heart and physically. When out playing in his foster yard, he still gets the “zoomies”. He would actually make a great hiking or jogging partner, he will walk or run just as fast and as long as you’re willing. He is very calm natured in the house, crate trained (he absolutely loves his crate and it’s also apparent that it serves as his “safe space”) and he is house trained as well.

Good news - You don’t have to wait for him! Ambrose is ready to go home immediately upon application approval and meet and greet(s)! He is current on all vaccines, neutered and microchipped.
