Melissa Ritter is a certified Dog Trainer, Behavior Specialist, and Operational Leader with more than 25 years in the pet care industry. She currently serves as Head Trainer at Dog Academy, where she oversees a nationwide network of over 1,000 positive reinforcement trainers and leads the organization’s specialized behavior team. In this role, Melissa bridges behavior science, client needs, and operational clarityensuring that every trainer, client, and dog is supported with ethical, effective, evidence-based practices. Melissa’s expertise spans service dog training, behavior modification, aggression and reactivity, and scalable program development. She is a CPDT-KA, Animal Behavior College graduate, Certified Veterinary Assistant, and AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator. She has completed advanced coursework through IAABC, Fenzi Dog Sports Academy, the Aggression in Dogs Master Course, Karen Pryor Academy, and other leading institutions. An active member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) International, Melissa remains committed to advancing the field through collaboration, continuing education, and professional leadership. Known for her clarity, compassion, and leadership, Melissa has transformed Dog Academy’s training model from a basic obedience program into a modern, nationwide service capable of supporting everything from puppy foundations to complex behavior cases. Her leadership has built systems that empower trainers, strengthen client relationships, and elevate the standards of accessible, science-based training. As a lifelong military spouse and mother of three, Melissa brings resilience, adaptability, and integrity to her work. At home in Louisiana, she shares her life with her veteran husband, their children, and a pack of beloved dogs. She believes that training should never involve fear, pain, or intimidationinstead, it should build connection, confidence, and communication. Melissa’s guiding values are simple: teach with science, love without conditions, and grow together.
